The company TopChair was the brainchild of Mr Hervé Le Masne, who imagined an innovative wheelchair designed to overcome obstacles and stairs without assistance. The aim was to increase independence for people with disabilities.
In 2002, in order to develop his project, he founded the company “HMC² Développement” with a very simple, initial concept in mind: equip the wheelchair with a track system to manoeuvre over steps while maintaining the seat in a horizontal position.
The first prototypes were created thanks to the support of the Ile de France region and a partnership with the ICAM engineering school in Toulouse. Several public and private structures (ANVAR, BIOCRITT…) also supported this project.
The wheelchairs are assembled at the Toulouse site with FRENCH components (85%). The TopChair-S electric wheelchair is constantly being improved thanks to close collaborations with the University Hospital and its users
This innovative project has not only created enthusiasm from the small start-up team but also the “France Business Angels” shareholders who have accompanied the development of the company TopChair.
